Household Device Security Checklist

1. Isolate Your Smart Home Devices

Most routers let you set up a “Guest Network.” Connect your smart TVs, smart plugs, and cameras to the guest network. That way, if a camera is compromised, hackers cannot access your personal laptops or banking phones.

2. Change Default Admin Passwords

Many smart cameras and Wi-Fi routers ship with default admin passwords (like “admin” or “1234”). Hackers scan the internet for these. Always set a strong, unique password on every household appliance.

3. Check App Permissions on Tablets

Kids often download free games. Many of these apps request access to contacts, photos, and location tracking. Go to Settings and disable permissions that do not match what the game needs to run.
